A laryngectomee is a person whose one or both cancerous larynx (sound box in the neck) have been surgically removed to save his/her life. A timely surgical operation in this case totally cures the patient suffering from cancer of the larynx, but in the process he/she looses his/her voice and is virtually a dumb handicapped person
In 1983 Laryngectomees were declared as physically handicapped persons by Govt. of India only on the recommendations of Laryngectomee Club of India
